Eberstadter stalactite cave (30 km)

The stalactite cave in the Eberstadt district of Buchen owes its discovery to the proverbial coincidence. Routine blasting in 1971 unexpectedly uncovered a major opening in the quarry wall.

Already the first careful inquiries gave an idea of the breathtaking geological beauty of a natural monument that is unique in southern Germany. In the geographic border area on the edge of the Odenwald, a cave was discovered for the first time in the so-called lower shell limestone.
